Organic breads, pastas, and cereals are widely available. Companies like Annie's, Bob's Red Mill, and Kashi are continually expanding their product lines to offer more variety. Traditional supermarkets usually carry mainstream organic brands and items, while specialty natural markets offer more unusual products like quinoa, sprouted grain breads, or even vegan baking mixes. While pesticide residues in conventional grain products are very low, consumers may choose organic baked goods which do not contain the additives often found in traditional products. Those concerned for the environment may also decide to go organic here. Traditional grain production, with little crop rotation or biodiversity and high synthetic fertilizer and pesticide use, can lead to groundwater contamination, soil compaction, and erosion.
